Digital Libraries: Trusted Resources & Tools for Better Utility
Lois Kenick, Retired Teacher, Northeast Education Resources, and Bethany Carlson
* ET
Level: Beginner
Grades: K-5, 6-8, 9-12, All
With the rapid acceleration of information available via the Internet, the process of efficiently locating high-quality and accurate resources becomes increasingly difficult. The National Science Digital Library (NSDL) was established by the National Science Foundation to improve and support science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education. Knowing how to find and use the resources, and the emerging tools and services that digital libraries provide result in a powerful tool for teachers and a reliable, trusted place on the internet for students. This workshop is designed for teachers, media specialists, and technology education coordinators at all grade levels. Participants are guided through the use and search capabilities of NSDL and learn about specific resources and formats. They formulate a lesson plan using materials they find in the session and have the opportunity to create an online web page to capture these resources for immediate use in the classroom.
