Learn how to create materials, presentations, and/or resources for your students to preview or review using free sites including Wikispaces, Google Sites, Diigo, and Edmodo. LingtLanguage & VoiceThread are two media-rich web-based services, often called "Rich Internet Applications" (RIAs). RIAs allow teachers and students to create and collaborate with text, images, audio, and video, enabling the incorporation of speaking proficiency into assignments, using nearly any computer with a microphone, webcam, and internet connection. With LingtLangauge (http://www.lingtlanguage.com), teachers can prepare interactive assignments with text, images and even YouTube video prompts. They can include questions that can be answered with a wide array of options, including open-ended text responses or audio recordings. Teachers can even leave audio feedback for students! VoiceThread (http://www.voicethread.com) enables asynchronous text, image, audio, and video collaboration between students and the teacher, and is especially good for group projects. Other free RIAs are also presented. Students can access these RIAs from any Internet-connected computer, at home or at school. LingtLanguage requires students to have an email address, while the subscription service for VoiceThread allows for the creation of accounts without associated email addresses. Come and create activities that you can use immediately with your own students, using the free options of these services - you won't believe how quick and easy it is! The presenter also demonstrates the features of the managed subscriptions.

GIS in 21st Century Middle & High School Classrooms
Ina Ahern, Science, Plymouth Regional High School, and Judy Tumosa, NH Fish and Game Dept.
* E2
Level: Beginner
Grades: 6-8, 9-12
Geospatial technologies have been shown to motivate and engage students in the learning process, promote higher order thinking skills, and increase academic achievement, including scores on high-stakes testing. NH has just attained a statewide license for ESRI's ArcGIS suite for K-12 education. In this hands-on session designed for middle and high school level educators, come and explore how this amazing technology can enhance learning in your classroom. (Curriculum leaders, technology coordinators, administrators, and informal educators are also welcome!) Applications in science, social studies, English, math, physical education and vocational-technical courses are demonstrated and discussed. See how this technology can help your students master content and skills from a variety of the NH State Frameworks. Learn how to collect local data using handheld GPS technology. Then see how all these areas can be integrated in Community Atlas projects where students define and describe their communities for an outside audience. All the required technology and tools are now available to NH schools for FREE! Bring your own laptop, if desired, for the online portions of this workshop. The presenters will also have laptops available with desktop GIS software for those who wish to explore the greater capabilities of that resource.
