Introduction to YOUR Digital Camera

A digital camera, recommended for classroom use, is included in the cost of this workshop. During this 1-hour early-bird session participants learn the basic functions and features of their digital camera. Tips and techniques for taking quality digital images and a brief discussion of classroom integration strategies are included. Participants practice taking, reviewing, and deleting images.

Introduction to Video Editing Using iMovie.

Using iMovie on Macs participants learn: how to log recorded tapes, develop an edit decision list, digitize video footage, explore basic editing technique using iMovie, work on a soundtrack, create titles, and transfer the edited movie to videotape. iMovie software is good for use by students in grades 3 - 8 and as an introductory format for high school students. This session is designed for beginners, those who wish to hone their editing skills, and all educators/librarians from all grade levels.

Using Sim City 2000 to Engage Students

Sim City 2000 is a challenging problem-solving game that engages students on a number of levels. Participants learn how to guide the students through a three-pronged learning process that helps players understand how to create successful cities. Many of the skills needed to play this game are skills educators try to develop in students on a daily basis. Properly played, Sim City 2000 is great for enticing students to use these skills.

Introduction to Using iDVD

In this workshop you bring your finished movies with you and learn how to turn them into DVDs. Participants load their movies into iMovie, create chapters, learn the basics of converting a movie to a DVD using iDVD. This includes creating a menu, adding music, creating a slide show, and burning a DVD. This workshop is designed for beginners and educators/librarians from all grades, who are familiar with iMovie or other editing software. Please bring the following with for this workshop: 1) a short 2-minute (or less) movie on mini DV videotape, 2) a camcorder with firewire cable, and 3) a blank DVD. You can also bring a CD with photos that can be turned into a slideshow using iDVD.

Integrating YOUR Digital Camera Across the Curriculum

Delve deeper into how to effectively use YOUR digital camera. We discuss techniques to better manage the camera and how to use the various functions of the camera. Learn how to download pictures to a computer, manage them, perform simple manipulations and include them in documents. This workshop covers how to use images to improve instruction, from documenting final projects to demonstrating steps in a process to illustrating changes. Please bring YOUR digital camera to this workshop. Please note: MITI 01 participants have priority registering for this workshop.

Video Editing Using Final Cut Pro

Participants are introduced to Final Cut Pro on Macs. Final Cut Pro is the next step for advanced video editing after iMovie and offers more precise editing options, special effects, color correction and multiple video and audio tracks. The workshop includes a discussion on recording and editing in high definition video and is recommended for high school educators and librarians and staff producing educational video. Prerequisite: Participants must be familiar with basic video editing, using IMovie or similar software on a Mac.

Web 2.0: What It Means to Educators & What It Can Do for You!

The nature of the Internet is rapidly changing, evolving from a model of centralized control to one of community created content and increased interactivity. Learn about social software tools your students are already using, what is coming soon, nifty tools for educators, and an easy, timesaving way to keep up with it all. An overview of free interactive online software, and an in-depth introduction to RSS and feeds, leading to a hands-on session where participants are given the time to set up their own feed aggregators and provided with starter feeds. Target audience includes middle and high school level teacgers, librarians, technology integrations specialists and coordinators, and administrators at all levels. Educators learn the value of setting up a feed aggregator as a time-efficient method of keeping up with cutting edge trends in technology and education.
