Why Learning Networks?
The ability to develop a network of learners is fast becoming a 21st century skill, yet we
continue to see resistance. Learn ways to more fully develop learning networks through
a variety of Web 2.0 tools. In addition to learning about specific tools, participants
discover how powerful learning networks can be, for themselves and their students. In a time when information is abundant
and students have the ability to learn from the more than two billion connected individuals worldwide, we continue to struggle
to break free from institutional constraints that dominated the 20th century. In the meantime, educators often fail to recognize
who truly owns the learning and how to leverage the power of connective technologies to foster a participatory culture in our
schools. Come investigate how brain research continues to shed light on the differences between introverts and extroverts
and how we can best develop pedagogy around connective technologies to meet individual needs.

administrators. Presenters help participants set up their iPad and offer a wide variety of tips and tricks specifically for
administrators, including how to manage multiple iPads and Apple TVs in your school. The registration fee for this workshop
includes the cost of the workshop AND the device. The specific iPad model selected will be posted in October on the

Inevitable! Mass Customized Learning (MCL)
Industry has figured out how to use technology resources to mass customize products and
services - education is poised for this leap. Let us do for learners what Apple does for music
lovers, what Amazon does when profiling our reading interests, and what Google does for
organizing our information. What if every day, every learner came to school and was met with
customized learning activities at his or her precise developmental and achievement level, was
learning in his or her most effective learning styles with content of interest, was challenged, and
was so successful that s/he left school eager to come back tomorrow? This is not only possible with today's technologies, it is
inevitable. Explore these concepts outlined in the book, Inevitable! Mass Customized Learning by Chuck Schwahn and Bea
McGarvey. Come join the conversation about how we advance this idea in your school.
Danielle presents Wednesday at 3:00 in Salon A and Thursday at 10:00 in Salon C.
Danielle also co-presents with Kent Hemingway on Thursday at 11:30 in Salon C.
