Lessons Learned During the COVID Virtual Pivot
This diverse panel of educators representing the voices of school administrators, library media, technology, classroom teachers, students, and the research community convenes to discuss lessons learned during the COVID transition to remote learning. What “take aways” resulted in better teaching, learning, and communicating? The three questions presented to our panel members for consideration include:
- What did we learn we “could NOT” do without?
- What did we learn we “could” do without?
- How will this experience change education moving forward?
We are excited to introduce our 8 panel members . . .

We are excited to announce that our Tuesday luncheon keynote will be streamed live from the DoubleTree for our virtual attendees and recorded for those not able to attend real time onsite or virtually.
Kate Darling, PhD.
Leading Expert in Social Robotics & MIT Media Lab Research Specialist

Tuesday Keynote: 11:30am to 1:00pm
The Future of Human-Robot Interaction
The robots are coming! They are getting smarter, evolving from single-task devices (think Roomba) into machines that can make their own decisions and autonomously navigate public spaces. From transportation systems, hospitals, and the military, to the robotization of our workplaces, households, and schools, robots will be everywhere and will increasingly interact with people.
Whether you find it exhilarating or terrifying (or both), progress in robotics and related fields like AI raises new ethical quandaries and challenges legal codes created for a world in which a sharp line separates man from machine.
Drawing from her recent work exploring humans’ emotional responses to robots, Dr. Kate Darling considers questions like:
- What happens when robots begin interacting with humans?
- What opportunities and challenges are anticipated in human-robot interactions?
- Why do people treat robots like living things, and why does that matter?
- What can and can’t robots and AI do?
- What societal challenges (ethical, legal, social) will we face in a future with robots?
Dr. Darling examines why people fear some robots and empathize with others, while also prompting – and answering – questions about what our relationship with these robots could look like in the future of work, education, and society. Dr. Darling’s keynote is in part an examination of the technology itself, but ultimately, offers a window into how it is poised to change the way we relate to each other and our own humanity – and why it matters.
