*  Level: Intermediate Grades: All  Extensions	Breakouts come in all shapes and sizes... You can use all kinds of bells and whistles or just ease into the concept slowly. If you think you know all about Breakouts, think again! If you think a Breakout means that you have to turn your whole classroom into an Escape Room: you will be pleasantly surprised at these other avenues. If you are afraid to try Breakouts, then this class is for you. If you already tried them and are looking to take it up a notch, come and discuss! This workshop will cover Breakouts in a differentiated style. After running a 12-week Breakout course for teachers, I learned how teachers of all skill levels can start using Breakout methods in their classrooms. Digital Breakouts through BreakoutEDU, DeckToys or Google Sites are all great options Simple breakouts with one topic or deep comprehensive breakouts will be covered. Learn about a variety of clue-making and designing tools, as well as sandbox sites with many different Breakouts. Take home lists, templates, and tools.

Level: Beginner Grades: Pre-K, K-5, 6-8, 9-12, All	Have you ever wondered about the biodiversity that can be found around your school, neighborhood, or community? Join the National Geographic Society to learn how to conduct a BioBlitz in your community with your students. A BioBlitz is an event that focuses on finding and identifying as many species as possible in a specific area over a short period of time. A BioBlitz can happen in most any geography (urban, rural, or suburban) in as large an area as a national park or small as a schoolyard. This workshop will teach you how to organize and conduct a BioBlitz with your students including how to locate, identity, and record organisms using the free iNaturalist.org website and app. Educators will learn about free videos, lesson plans, and other aids to support their students in discovering the biodiversity in their own backyards. BioBlitzes provide great opportunities for your students to become citizen scientists and understand ecological concepts. Kelly Blais, a science teacher from the David R. Cawley Middle School in Hooksett shares her BioBlitz experiences during this workshop as well. Indeed even if you're just curious and want to push your thinking about what fewer grades and authentic assessment can look like, this session has something for you. In this session, participants will learn about technology tools and resources to transform your letter and number grades into a student centered, feedback focused environment. We will explore how a transition to a gradeless classroom might go from piloting a single gradeless unit to ditching the letter and number system entirely. Participants will also learn and share specific strategies for going gradeless or grading less even if your district has strict grading requirements. Join us for this fun and collaborative activity to solve a mystery, discover how this technique has been successfully implemented in a high school forensics course, and learn how to create your own activity for the classroom. Utilizing Google Forms and analysing evidence left behind at the scene, attendees will race to piece together clues and complete activities, ultimately solving the mystery. With the popularity of shows like CSI, NCIS, Bones, and Dexter, forensic science is the new "hot topic" high school course. See how technology and Google Forms have been integrated to help students review and apply content knowledge throughout the course. No previous experience with forensic science, Google Forms, or specific grade-level teaching is required to participate in this engaging activity. *  Level: Intermediate Grades: Pre-K, K-5	"Making" It Fun Again will share how the students and teachers of Bancroft School are using "making" and digital learning to make learning fun again. This session is designed for K-5 educators. The focus of this session is to show how using making principles along with digital learning educators can nurture curiosity, motivate and support student learning and achievement. In today's society students need to be able to create and think outside of the box. Using maker skills along with strong digital literacy students are set up for success. Participants will learn about the evolution of the Bancroft MakerStudio. Its start from as a small movement and how it spread school wide. The Bancroft MakerStudio is a place where children can explore how to build different objects, inventions, or gadgets. The objective of the MakerStudio is to provide children the freedom of innovative experimentation and exploration. The MakerStudio allows students to learn to be creative in their expression of thoughts and ideas. How do we help children accomplish this objective? We create a space that has the materials, tools and the appropriate space to spread out and work alone or collaboratively with others. The end product is either a new creation or a representation of an idea. The challenge for any educator is time. How did I fit it all in? How can we go to the MakerStudio and still finish our prescribe curriculum. During this session,time will be spent exploring how to make curriculum
T1-07 2019 Session	Improving Presentations: Pecha Kucha Style Cynthia Young, Social Studies Teacher, Ms., and Kai Dennett, Portsmouth High School
*  Level: Beginner Grades: 6-8, 9-12	Experience the world of Pecha Kucha, where students and teachers create powerful, precise, practiced presentations which last only six minutes and forty seconds. Creating and delivering these 20 x 20 slideshows (20 slides X 20 seconds each) will build in success by using structures which can be evolved and adapted to fit the needs of the audience. These techniques will transform how you and your students engage with, and share, ideas and information, by starting with a clear design. In over 1000 cities around the world, people use Pecha Kucha to teach each other about their passions with these structured, seven-minute, image-focused presentations. This will be a co-led student and teacher presentation.

Learn how to go beyond information retrieval and hear about how teachers and librarians are using them for inquiry-based learning, student produced projects, and classroom management. Did you know that you and your students can write your own "Skills" for these devices, creating customized apps? Session ideas will be tied to creative interpretations of ISTE and Common Core standards. You will hear about technologies and innovative ideas that do not yet exist at the time of this proposal but show promise. The term "Electronic Constructivism" was coined by this presenter, who teaches a course titled "Emerging Technologies", and who will stress what really matters: Good Teaching. No experience with these technologies is necessary, but an open mind, with a sense of adventure and fun, are highly recommended. They'll be a raffle with technology related door prizes.

We will share our experience as coaches who support a wide variety of professionals across multiple schools, different grade levels, and all subject areas. As a result, we tried a variety of new approaches to professional development within our district. Examples include blended classes (online and face-to-face), connecting our teachers to digital professional resources outside of our district (such as blogs and podcasts), our own district podcast, small department meetings, and a quarterly newsletter.

Level: Beginner Grades: 6-8, 9-12	Come explore the concept of 20% Time in Social Studies with a focus on Middle School. See how you can help personalize the classroom curriculum and how 20% Time is implemented. The focus of this project is the ownership students take in meeting the 21st Century Learning Expectations of Self-Management, Communication, Decision Making & Problem Solving, and Technology & Information Use. As well as the Common Core Standards in History, CC RH.6-8.1,2,5,7,8: Students will self-reflect and produce a Process Paper emphasizing/defining their performance. We discuss how the core subject teacher and the librarian collaborated to create this unique learning experience. We structured our semester calendar to allow students 1 day a week to deeply explore a topic of their choice. We will have examples of projects students did and plan to invite a few students to come with us and talk about their experiences with 20% time.
