T2-08 2021 Session |
FIRST LEGO League - Scratching the Surface with SPIKE Prime & Essential Ken St.Hilaire, Director, FIRST New Hampshire Robotics, and Jeremy Knowlton, White Mountain Science, Inc. |
Level: Beginner Grades: K-5, 6-8 |
In this hands-on session, you will gain an introduction to the LEGO SPIKE Essential and SPIKE Prime robot platforms used by the FIRST LEGO League programs. You will design, test, and re-design your very own LEGO robot, learning the basics of programming with the Scratch-based environment used within the LEGO SPIKE App. You will use motors to make your robot creation move without wheels, and you will use integrated sensors to control its movement. A focus will be placed on practicing the iterative engineering-design process, and on creating student voice and independence. By the end of the program, you will have all the knowledge and digital resources you need to run an introductory robotics activity with your students. This session is one of a series of LEGO workshops that we will provide during the conference. Each session will focus on a different functional area of the LEGO SPIKE platforms. Come to one session, come to all sessions, and learn by playing with us! |
